To the people in the Aztec themed active play thread (and those others who may have wanted me for whatever reason), the name of which I can't quite recall right now, I sincerely apologise for my lack of activity over the past several months. I've had internet problems that have only recently been resolved.

Edit: Completely unrelated to the rest of this post, some of you may find the following interesting:

Trauma

It is a book about adding realistic injuries and recovery times, and includes a chapter on how to implement this in several systems, including TRoS.

No sweat, Hector. Things like that happen, and it’s certainly not your fault, that the campaign kinda fizzled out, or was at least placed on hold.

Main thing is to have you back as an active member of the community. :)

Good to see you back and thanks for the Trauma tip! It looked awesome and I just bought that. :)

I'm still waiting for it to get delivered, but then I only bought it last night. It does look particularly awesome; I'll see about putting up a review once I've actually read it.

That's now on my list. If you have ever been injured in real life you know that your whole life revolves around exactly what the injury was. I was always a fan of Phoenix Command's damage tables but this looks awesome. No POINTS!!, Injuries.

(Yes I work in a medical field ;) )

I especially like the idea that the injury becomes dramatic.

This reminds me of a damage/healing system I created 20 years ago for our Chivalry and Sorcery/Harnmaster game. If a critical hit occurred then you rolled on these tables I created, one per wound location, which were created from a small trauma manual (mainly car crash injuries). Anyway each entry had a brief "This is what you tell the players" line followed by as much detail as necessary for the referee -- to let the referee know what was actually happening and what would continue to happen without treatment.

At one stage we had a nurse in our group. He played a warrior monk. One of the other characters was the designated healer character. Anyway, I have fond memories of one character breaking his arm through a critical hit. The healer set the arm as best he could -- and pinched the artery between the bones during the process (an added possibility from the damage table). In time the hand lost colour and became numb, like pins and needles. As the healer began to panic, the nurse stepped in and said:

"The break is ischaemic -- reset the bones again, separate them so that they don't pinch the artery, and it'll be fine."

I was so pleased that the problem could be diagnosed through the filter of my newbie understanding of the trauma book and my description of the symptoms! :P

Regards,

Agreed; injuries are much more dramatic than just losing a couple of points on a generic "life meter".

Hmmm. The link provided to Lulu.com says the product doesn't exist. Crap.

Bloody hell! And no damn announcement on the web page! I'll contact Lulu and hope that they somehow enable me to get the NEW edition.

I looked back at the email and realised that my paraphrase wasn't quite accurate. So here is the email verbatim. I am looking for a pdf to save on shipping costs.

The books are temporarily unavailable as the second edition is being
released. The proof copies of the second edition are expected in a
weeks time and if they look good it should be available shortly
thereafter.

There will be an update on the website, http://www.RadicalApproach.co.uk,
when the books are available again and I can e-mail you a notification
if you like.

A pdf version is scheduled for after the launch of DICE the
roleplaying game. DICE is in the editing and final playtest phase, but
is still missing the majority of the artwork and so there is currently
no release date. Information about progress is continuously updated on
http://www.DiceSystem.com

Thank you for your interest.

Claus

I ask to be notified, so I'll pass on the notification here.

Thanks Valthalion!

I'll share some of my own correspondence as well.

Quote:
The difference between editions is not big. The 2nd edition, which
should be available in a few weeks, has been updated to be more
integrated with the DICE roleplaying game (not released).

Perhaps the most noticeable change is that the Trauma Converted
chapter, for how to use the book with various roleplaying systems, has
been removed in the 2nd edition. Mostly to try and keep the page count
down as the cost of the book has increased with Lulu increasing
printing costs.

The layout has been slightly improved and there has been a few
spelling and grammar corrections. Some traumas have been rewritten to
make things clearer or simpler, but most are more or less the same in
both editions. The trauma tables, apart from some minor corrections,
are identical. There are no new traumas introduced.

In that case, the first edition is probably more suited to our needs anyway.

I wonder if we can convince them to post the chapter on the website as a pdf. The first edition is no good to me if I can't get it. :(

I should have quoted the last paragraph of his letter as well. My concern was that I bought probably the last 1st ed copy ever to be printed and what I'd thus be missing.
Quote:
An electronic PDF release is intended some time after DICE is
launched, but with no set release schedule I don't want to promise
anything as it could be a long time before it is out. However, once a
PDF copy is released I would be happy to provide you with a free
electronic PDF copy of Trauma 2nd Edition if you send me a copy of the
electronic receipt you got from Lulu when you ordered the book.
Maybe he's willing to send you the .pdf of 1st ed under the same conditions? Or indeed, make the conversion chapter freely available.
