Hi Folks!

This is the new home for future announcements concerning the Blade of the Iron Throne RPG!

As development moves along for Blade of the Iron Throne (hereafter Blade), we will keep you posted as we reach significant milestones in production.

Some FAQs:

What will Blade Feature?

1) Classic Sword and Sorcery theme
2) D12 based Dice Pool
3) Attribute/Skill range of 1-8
4) Fixed TN
5) Book will be full color
6) Great Sword and Sorcery artwork
7) PDF will be free, Hard Copy from Lulu at cost
8) Page count will be about the same as TroS
9) A fantastic S&S setting!
10) Customizable priority table

To the above I can add that Blade's magic system nicely captures the flavor of classic Sword & Sorcery fiction, so fans of REH or CAS will be delighted we think!

Sounds interesting, can you discuss details of your project, share/debate your design choices, or send me what you've done so far?

The development team is terribly excited over this project, and while we may be sorely tempted, we will have to say no!

This community has waited for something concrete to happen with a successor for several years. At the beginning of Blade's development it was decided that the community would not be disappointed yet again. No sailing in circles with Blade, just the committed delivery of the best book we can produce.

When will Blade be released?

Our target to present Blade to the community is September 1st, 2011. Development is moving well, so a fixed date is now a reality.

Will this book be it? Anything else coming in the future?

After the Blade Core Rules PDF is released, and the LuLu Hardbound book available, we will turn our attention to our first Blade supplement, one of alternate magic and new S&S monsters: Sorcery and the Flayed.

Regards,

Phil

With a D12 system; will it work the same as classic TRoS, eg lots of dice in the pool.
I just outlayed a heap of money to top up my D10 collection with Game Science dice.
But I don't think I have many 12's.

Even with a free PDF can people still make donations if they wish?
How does that work legally?

Hi Allan!

Concerning your first question, I think Ian can get D12s pretty cheaply as I recall. All of the TroS variants will use a dice pool as far as I know.

If you would like to make a donation for Blade, please consider investing that money into dice instead. This is our gift to the community and that is enough for us. Still want to donate some loot? Then perhaps a small donation to TrosFans would be okay with Ian. Thank you for asking, that was generous of you!

Phil

I am very much into custom dice design at the moment for another project. With PJ's permission I would look at producing custom d12s for Blade and selling them through trosfans.

And that is generous of you Phil!

How about this? Any donations made to trosfans as thank-yous and encouragement for those who produce a Successor game will be recycled as a fund pool for artwork for other Successor games and supplements? So if we get a few hundred dollars donated when Blade is released then we could commission some artwork for Sorcery and the Flayed or any other team looking for help for their project.

What do you think?

Regards,

Sounds fine, the current Harn artist seems reasonable to work with.

These are fine suggestions Ian! The idea of some custom D12s for Blade is a wonderful thought, and I would be glad to stick in some loot myself for any fund that would support more TroS variants. Well Done Ian!

Ah, I didn't realize Richard was back into it. I have a number of commissioned pieces from Richard but he dropped out of sight for quite a while.

This is very exciting. Is Blade really likely to be available in September?

Hello GIT!

We are getting close, so yes, I feel that Sept 1st is a very realistic debut date! I hope you will enjoy the finished book!

Regards,

Phil

Hi Folks,

This seems as good a time as any for a status update!

Using the TroS Core Rules as a yardstick, we have now advanced to the tail end of "Book" five, with much of Book 6 done, and Book 7's material at perhaps the half-way mark. We have also worked on the Appendices, with the all-new Wound Tables now mocked up, the glossary complete, and re-designed weapons material down to some tweaking. Data items for the Index are at last being collected as well. Creating an Index is the literary equivalent of being water-boarded I can assure you!

Regards,

Phil

Hi pbj! great news indeed.

Could you anticipate some tiny bits of combat system? Are we going to see TROS with some tweak and d12 or are there some significant changes out there? :)

Hi Mattia!

Oh, you tempt me to tell all, you truly do!!! But...the rest of the development team would never forgive me! I think I can safely say that every aspect of TroS, (from the Priority Table, Skills, Maneuvers, Combat Rules, character creation, Magic, Wound Tables, Weapons, you name it) has been re-imagined for Blade.

Regards,

Phil

Getting very excited about this! Is the image you posted an example of the artwork you will be using or just a teaser?

Well, actually, I think I probably would forgive you. Eventually.

No, kidding aside, I think our time is much better spent working on Blade than talking about it.
